Training Yourself to Become More Positive

As a business owner you are often forced to deal with a lot of challenges and stress throughout the day.  This can lead you to lose your positive outlook and become more negative in both your business and personal life.  By choosing to focus on the positive in every situation, you will begin to train yourself to become more positive in all aspects of your life.  To help you begin this journey I have put together some helpful information.

  • Remember to Be Grateful – While it is common for us to place more importance on negative events, it is up to us to balance the negativity with something positive that you are grateful for.  When you take the time to think about all of the good things in your life you will balance the negative and allow yourself to remember and store the positive event.  It is recommended that you take some time each week to reflect on what you are grateful for and how it has positively impacted your life.  This will help you remember that with all of the negativity you experience on a daily basis, there is likely more positive in your life that you should be grateful for.
  • Repeat Positivity – As you’re likely aware, the more that you hear a particular message the more likely you are to remember it.  This is true with positive affirmations as well.  Simply by reminding yourself of who you are and everything you are capable of, you will begin to believe it.  If you are beginning to doubt your leadership skills or why you went into business in the first place, erase that doubt by reminding yourself that you are capable of accomplishing everything you strive for.  We can all benefit from some daily reminders that we have the skills we need to succeed.
  • Challenge Your Negative Thoughts – Every time we have a negative thought, we internally choose how to respond to it.  It is this ability that will allow us to either give in to the negativity or challenge it and replace it with something positive.  It is hardwired into our brains that negative events deserve more attention and we should place more importance on these types of events.  However, we do not have to do that; we have the ability to distance ourselves from these negative events and take away some of their power.  Simply by viewing the event from a distance, we will be able to interpret the event in a much different way.  Don’t be afraid to challenge any negative thought that enters your brain, you’ll be better for it.
