How You Can Create an Effective Social Media Post

If you’re like many of us, you have come to rely on social media as part of your marketing efforts.  As much as we would like, there is no magic formula that we can follow to ensure that all of our posts are entertaining and worthy of getting shared.  Depending on which social media websites you use, they all operate in somewhat different fashions.

The fans that you may have on one site may not be as entertained by your posts as some on other sites, this means that you need to find a happy medium and produce content that will ensure your fans are happy on all of your social media pages.  To help you make the most of your social media efforts, I have put together some tips for use on each of the different social media websites.

  • Facebook – When you post on Facebook it is important that you posts are upbeat and positive.  This type of content tends to be more appealing to your fans and is more likely to get shared.  You should also remember to include a link back to your website to help drive your fans to your site.  This is likely the primary reason you created a Facebook page after all isn’t it.  If you include images in your posts, you should make sure that they can easily be viewed on mobile devices; it’s more common for your fans to view your posts on their phones than a traditional computer.
  • Pinterest – Pinterest is still somewhat of a new social media site and many businesses are still trying to figure how to use it to their benefit.  One of the most important things to keep in mind when using Pinterest is that images that do not feature a face are often repinned more often than images featuring a face.  Color is also another important element to use when posting images.  It has been shown that images that feature the colors red or orange are repinned twice as much as other images.
  • Twitter – With the limited amount of characters you have to work with on this platform, it is important that you include a clear call to action in your tweets.  You should also make the most out of your limited space by using shorter links to your website.  There are a number of tools available that can help you shorten a link that you are sharing.  To engage your followers you may want to consider adding facts, questions, and figures.

Facebook Negativity in Business and Stuff… If you don’t have anything nice to say….

Everyone wants to be heard.  Everyone wants people to comment on their Facebook posts.  It is human nature to want to be heard and acknowledged.  That is a fine and dandy – however, on the WWW, being acknowledged only through negativity is not going to do squat for your bottom line.  (Yes, people post crap just to get comments.)  Mind you, you may get acknowledgement on your negative posts because you are like a car wreck and people can’t help themselves but to stop and stare at the bloodbath going on in front of their eyes.  But it doesn’t mean they are going to buy your once shiny new car now a heap of trash metal from you because they stopped and looked on even if they offered you their condolence for the mess in front of you.

If you are using Facebook for business, keep it business.  Keep the catty comments off your statuses.  It doesn't say much for the person you are and reflects badly on your business. If you have a beef with another, take it up with them personally and leave it off your Facebook.  Like your momma told you – “If you don’t have nothing nice to say, keep your mouth shut!”  That statement rings true in business networking as well.  Momma does know best!

Part two of this is out and out calling someone out on some bullshit.  Yep, there are shady businesses on Facebook – there are shady businesses everywhere along with shady people. And then there are people out there that are just straight up haters that go out of their way to make sure they post status updates making pokes at those they hate on.  Let me ask everyone this – do you think it makes them feel better to post innuendos toward those they hate on?  Does it make them feel superior or clever?  I think it shows immaturity and their insecurities in their own business venture.   I have never been able to comprehend what they feel they are getting out of it other than attention from other attention whores that really are not going to do a thing for their business growth.

Again – if you have a legit bitch, that is one thing – but still I feel there are more mature ways to handle it rather than silly child’s play on FB when you are supposed to be a business professional.   Be a Man or Woman about your stuff and take your complaint to the source of discomfort.  In addition, be careful what you post on Facebook, because you can be legally prosecuted for defamation or harassment.

Facebook is a great tool for business owners to network if done properly.  I personally have made quite a few awesome connections there.  Remember, positivity encourages positivity.  Uplift others just because it is the right thing to do!  Not because anyone is watching and not for what you can get out of it – but just because it feels good and it will bring good Karma to your door.  :-)

Social Media’s Direct Route to Charitable Causes

I have noticed lately that people are using social media more to get attention for their charities. Facebook is revolutionizing organ donation right now, for example. Maybe if you are a business owner, you are thinking, “What does this have to do with me?” Actually, it may mean a lot to your business in terms of public relations. Getting involved with a meaningful cause is a great way to improve the public’s perception of your company.

Businesses that sponsor charitable events and drives get the benefit of good press. They also have opportunities to get out their branding messages. For-profit companies often sponsor charity golf events, dinners or races. When they do, the traditional route is to hand out logo hats, T-shirts, or other branded goodies. I show up in a logo shirt or carry a logo bag, and people around me take notice.

Social media platforms bring people together in several ways. Just interacting on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ can get the word out that you are involved in helping others. I have sent and been sent invitations to events through Facebook. I always read them because I do not want to miss out on something important to me.

I also hear about causes I am interested in from Twitter posts. Conversations can start up and spread easily in those feeds. If I want to find out what is going on with my favorite charities, I check out the trending topics and search for them. When I do, I notice pretty quickly who is putting on events to advance my cause.

If you are participating in a charitable event, you probably want everybody to know about it. Get on those social media sites. Post details and statistics about the cause. Post inspirational messages that are relevant to your charity. Include a motto or slogan of your own along with a mention of the charity.

If your profile picture does not tell something about your business, change it right away. It should be your logo, a photo of a company leader, or an illustration or photo showing your services. When consumers see your logo or special image associated with social giving, the positive exposure goes a long way.

You look good when you help others, but remember that while you are looking good, you are also making an impact on a worthy cause. You do not have to steal the show away from the cause you sponsor. All you have to do is let people know you are involved. They will draw their own conclusions, and you will get the positive results you want.

Do you have a charity that your business sponsors?

You have a Facebook Fanpage, now what? ~ How to increase your conversion rate of fans into sales.

You took the Facebook plunge and created a fanpage for your niche in the world of online sales.  Okay, great!  You have the page… so now how are you using it to have it make money for you?

The customers are not going to just start popping out of the wood work like magic, swarming like cockroaches starving for what you have to offer, begging to buy/eat/use your product/service.  You have to bring them customers to you.  To convert fans into customers you first have to get the fans, and then once you have the fans, NOT DRIVE THEM AWAY!!!

The Numbers Game! ~ Facebook Fanpages

A decision was made that we will no longer be partaking in ladders. They are addictive for one thing & it ends up being a numbers game. We will do strolls where we can actually make a connection & actually see what others have to offer. There are too many wonderful pages w/great products out there that are being totally overlooked because of ladders. This is just my feelings from a marketing stance.

Facebook Fanpage Etiquette

A Facebook Fanpage is a great way to network and ultimately attract potential clients but it can also be a place where you drive those same potentials away.  When creating a fanpage the creators first thought is “How can I get as many fans as possible?”  Everyone wants to have a lot of people who“Like” what they are offering however there is no real overnight growth like that holds truly potential clients or customers.  There are FanPages that you see their fanbase grow overnight by hundreds.  That is great if they are creating solid connections and not a bunch of spam pages or dead pages used by others that promise "x" amount of fans overnight for just "$" dollar amount.  Reality is, a solid foundation of networking fans that actually result in any kind of conversion does not happen overnight.

Facebook Fan Pages, Numbers, and the Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction belief is simple – ‘similar attracts similar’ and ‘thoughts control outcome’. This is true in all aspects of life, from personal to business.
For example… if one continues to think their life is heading nowhere, the likelihood of that being a reality is quite high!  Everyone has known a person who dwells in sorrow and never really accomplishes anything. Everyone knows a person that has a positive go get'em personality where nothing out of reach.  Those are the people who attain great things in their lives.  It is easy to see how the Law of Attraction applies to all aspects of life – but can one really merely think good things to happen and 'waa la!' they happen?  Unless they have a genie in their pocket, no way!
